KNWO - Karenni National Women's Organization

Empowerment • Peace • Advocacy

Our vision is for every woman and girl to make their own choices in their lives, enjoy full equal rights, and live free from violence.

Karenni National Women's Organization
(KNWO)

In Karenni state, women were subject to serious human rights abuses by the Burmese military, including rape, torture, and forced labour. This led to many seeking asylum along the Thailand-Myanmar border. However, in the refugee camps along this border, women continue to experience discrimination and violence.

Our Mission

To ensure that KNWO is internationally recognised as a women's organisation and to advocate for equal rights, empowerment, protection, livelihood, and a peaceful society for women and girls living in refugee camps along the Thai/Myanmar border and in Karenni state.

Our Vision

Every women and girl is able to make their own choices in their lives to enjoy full equal rights in social, economic and political life, and live free from violence.

Programs & Projects

Karenni National Women's Organization (KNWO) serves over 1000 woman members, over 5000 families in 2 refugee camps along the Thailand-Myanmar border, and thousands of direct beneficiaries in Karenni state.
